Weddings Away! First I took the Canadian government to court to fight for same-sex marriage rights with the crew from http://www.queermarriage.com. Now I'm capturing the photographs of historic gay and lesbian weddings away! When my wife Joy Masuhara and I eloped to Toronto after same-sex marriage became legal in June of 2003, we were stumped by practicalities. How could we access services? We wanted a still photographer, a videographer, flowers, a cake, champagne, music, but even after extensive internet research, we were stymied. Who was good? Who was recommended? Who was available? Time was ticking by. Finally we hired a videographer last minute and decided to do without everything else. We meant to find at least champagne and flowers once we were in town, but in the flurry of prep and press, we forgot. Did we feel silly when the judge who married us had an ice bucket, ice and champagne flutes--only we hadn’t brought champagne! And did we feel sheepish, and grateful, when, at the last possible moment, a reporter from Tokyo TV popped across the street to a corner store to pick us up some flowers. In August, we hosted a reception back home
in August and had all the frills! Pix can be viewed at http;//www.queermarriage.com
by clicking on the wedding album section. I’d be delighted to be your still
photographer for your wedding away, and can also supply basic wedding
essentials like garters, cakes, champagne flutes. I can also recommend
the BC web site for the same-sex marriage litigants, a clearing house
where you’ll find all you ever wanted to know about gays and lesbians
and Canada’s marriage laws, at http://www.queermarriage.com. As
time passes, we at the site are compiling a list of or links to gay/gay
friendly businesses that you can approach for lodging, dining, etcetera.
We’re even compiling a list of gays and lesbians across BC willing
to stand up as your witnesses for your historic gay or lesbian wedding.
I work exclusively with professional digital cameras and endeavor to do as much work as possible with natural daylight. My favourite shots are candid and unposed. I am working to put together a web portfolio, but until that's complete, here are a few of the details I've shot of late. I am happy to email you a price list, and congratulations on your happy decision! |
